Welcome to the St. Thomas More Newman Center, the Roman Catholic Campus Ministry for The Ohio State University! We’re a ministry of the Diocese of Columbus, staffed by the Paulist Fathers.  We are one of the largest and best college Newman Centers in the country, and have been recognized by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for our exemplary programs for developing leaders for the future.

On behalf of the staff and student leaders of the St. Thomas More Newman Center, we would like to welcome you to OSU! We invite you to come by the Newman Center and become involved as a Buckeye Catholic.  Numerous students have found the Newman Center a “home away from home” to connect with others who long to make their Catholic Christianity come alive.  In the overwhelming landscape of such a large university, we offer a place of personal warmth to meet supportive friends.  From Masses to dynamic student activities, from liturgical ministries to meaningful service and leadership opportunities, there are countless ways to join us at the Newman Center.  The Newman Center is the place where faith meets life. We extend an open-hearted and open-armed welcome to all in the celebration of the Eucharist, pray together in bible study groups, and reach out to help make a difference in the world. Be sure to check out all of these opportunities through our website, http://www.buckeyecatholic.com.

The Newman Center has a strong missional sense with our mission of Catholic campus ministry for The Ohio State University, with clear “core values” of Liturgy, Welcoming Community, Service, Faith Formation, Stewardship and Servant Leadership.  We serve campus, the diocese, wider church, and community in numerous ways, and we seek to help students experience the best parish-like atmosphere possible so that our graduating students can be empowered as Catholic leaders for future parishes and dioceses around the country.

Some of our most popular student ministries include the following:

-           Our vibrant and engaging daily and weekend Masses:  daily Mass every day at 5:30 p.m., 12:30 p.m. MWF, and 5 Masses on the weekend!   Also, serving as a liturgial minister (lector, Eucharistic minister, music minister, server, hospiatlity minister, Mass coordiantor, sacristan, etc.)

-          Buckeye Awakening Retreat, which over 320 students participate every year

-          Catholic Bible Studies on campus, which over 300 students participate

-          Weekly student gatherings, called BCAT( Buckeye Catholic) and Spaghetti Dinner, which draw hundreds every week for growing in faith and building friendships

-          Week-long service trips, which over 40 students participate every year, doing over 2,000 hours of community service

-       Catholic Relief Services Ambassador Chapter was named #1 in 2017, which are students that engage in service and justice education and advocacy.  Food for the Homeless ministries serving at different shelters, Habitat for Humanity, St. Vincent DePaul, BREAD Justice Ministry, and many other outreach opportunities

-          Eucharistic Adoration, First Fridays, morning prayer, and confession opportunities

-          Our nationally recognized ESTEEM Leadership Program, which helps student leaders who are about to graduate transition from campus to parish leadership

-          Our Peer Ministry Program/Campus Ministry Theological Exploration of Vocation Initiative, which helps students serve as peer ministers in areas of ministry while they discern their life’s call
